She nodded and drank another fourth of the bottle, handing it back to him to finish it off. "Yeah, grown ups." She shrugged. "Do you think everyone on the island can do what we can do? Do you think everyone in the world can? What if we're all like this. Humans or whatever." She looked down at the sand and imagine that every little grain was a person. If everyone in the world had powers, then that was a hell of a lot of powers. She wondered if everyone had something different but then decided that that was probably impossible.
"I've only told you. Not even Glory or my sister or my mom." Laney didn't even feel the need to mention her father. She would never tell him anything personal about her life. "I don't really trust anyone else."
