Alfie shrugged. He wasn't sure how much longer he could keep up this tough guy act, especially when it got to be his turn to down some more of that beer. "A little," he said, which pretty much counted the one time he sneaked into his dad's bar to smell all of the bottles he had down there. He was no where near brave enough to actually drink anything. Yet here, with Laney, he was somehow brave enough to take a sip of whatever that was in that Coke can. It could have been rat poison, and he still would have taken a sip. It was all for her.
"Huh." The idea hadn't crossed his mind at all. He hadn't ever been drunk, never even come close enough to test it out. "I guess we're about to find out." He looked at the bottle she was holding in her hands when the idea struck him. "If... something like that happens.... and I can't control my strength or something..." He frowned, unsure he wanted to say the next few words but forcing them out anyway. "Knock me out. Hit me over the head with the bottle. It should do it. Okay? Don't let me hurt you."
