It wasn't often that Luke voluntarily cleaned the house, but his homecoming party was a special circumstance. He'd been up since ten in the morning dusting, sweeping, doing dishes, buying groceries, and a hundred other things. By 6:45 the place looked wonderful, but of course Luke wasn't about to kid himself that it would miraculously stay that way. Parties were rather messy things, after all, so Luke was planning on having a ton of clean-up to do when everything was finally over. But that could wait, obviously. And besides, the set-up would've sucked a little more if Luke hadn't had a few friends to help. Luke was also pretty sure that food wouldn't be much of an issue. He'd bought more than he'd originally said he was going to, and he was positive that, since so many of his friends had "signed up" to bring things too, nobody would go hungry. As Luke surveyed the party area, he felt pretty proud of himself. Oddly enough, he'd never actually thrown a big party before. He'd had little ones from time to time, but nothing so huge as this. Then again, he'd never really had a reason to. Maybe when he moved out in a year or two he'd throw a housewarmng party, like Evan had done. That way, everyone could actually go all-out and not have to sip the alcohol that would inevitably be there out of Coke cans.
Oh well. Luke has had always known his mom was cool, and the fact that she was even letting him do this in the first place was a testament to just how cool she was. He had no idea how she'd managed to talk his dad into this, but honestly he didn't even want to know; he was just glad that it was happening. And honestly? Luke had a feeling that this party was going to be pretty damn kickass, even if they did have to hide the alcohol. There was music for dancing, tons of food and (eventually) plenty of drink, there'd be a lot of awesome people, a place to dance... all that was missing now were the rest of the guests. And theoretical presents. Well. And the karaoke machine. Luke smirked to himself as he thought about how he'd dared Mao to show up in drag. He wondered if he actually would. Mao was unpredictable like that, so it was definitely within the realm of possibility. Oh, he would laugh. He would laugh so hard.
Luke was just opening a can of cream soda when the doorbell rang. Luke grinned as he crossed the room, ready to meet his first guest.
