Calvin sighed softly. Of course he wouldn't be able to convince Emily otherwise, and honestly, he didn't really feel like trying. He was pretty sure that her claim that "she knew nothing was going to happen" was more or less a lie - when it came to this kind of thing, it was much easier to say that you have no hope than to actually behave as if you did. On the other hand, though, it pained him to listen to her talk about herself as if she were some kind of freak. After all, if she was, than so was he. And Katie, for that matter. And they seemed fine.
"You do what you want Em," he began gently, "but I don't think that living like a nun is necessarily going to fix this problem either. Just because you tell yourself you're not going to fall in love doesn't mean you can actually do it. I don't think it really works that way." At least, it hadn't with him and Katie, but that wasn't really the point. Talking about Katie when he was around Emily always made him feel a little guilty. He wasn't stupid. He could see the jealousy flair in her eyes when he did, even if the moments were brief. "And I don't think you have to exile yourself just because you can control the weather. I mean, think of what a good relationship could do! We'd all have tropical weather and it would be lovely." He patted her shoulder. "You're not a freak, Em. Trust me."
