Calvin listened carefully as Emily answered most of his questions, including some that he didn't ask. His first reaction, as he began to get over the shock, was to draw Emily a little closer to him, rubbing her shoulder comfortingly. "You aren't a freak, Em," he said, with an almost surprising degree of confidence in his voice. "Trust me. What you can do is actually pretty... incredible. I mean think about it! You never have to deal with insufferably hot or cold weather ever again! You can just fix yourself. Right?" He tried to be as encouraging as possible, although now he was in a bit of a bind. He'd just told her that she wasn't a freak, but now he'd have to prove it. Except... would she really believe that he could see the future? Especially since he had nowhere near the degree of control that she did over her ability. For now, he would let it rest, although he was sure she'd ask him something.
"Jacen..." Calvin shook his head sadly. "He isn't doing well. At all. He's really worrying me with the stuff he's been saying." Calvin sighed heavily. "But he's strong. I'm sure he'll get through it. You're right, of course. There are other girls. It's just that when Jacen focuses on something... he just doesn't let go. But this time... he has to. It's tough for him."
