By this point, Calvin had known Katie long enough to understand how stubborn she could be about points such as these, so he promptly abandoned that vein of conversation in favor of the secondary topic - the cranes themselves. The kiss was distracting, though, and it took him a few seconds to reorient before he could say anything. Calvin still wasn't terribly good at talking and kissing; it was too easy for him to go into sensory overload and get his train of thought all mixed up. He responded by working his fingers ever so slightly up her midriff a little, so they were the tiniest bit under her tank top. For Calvin, this was a huge amount of progress.
"How can you be annoyed by origami? That's just silly. The whole point is the peacefulness of the folding paper. It's supposed to be very Zen." Calvin had done more research about origami than he'd like to admit, both before and after he'd brought Katie her first basic origami set right after she'd broken her leg. He wanted her to have something interesting but low-stress to do, and Calvin found that the link between the Zen nature of origami and its promotion of inner peace to be perfect.
