Penny couldn't feel her arm. Actually, she was falling into a rather peaceful sort of sleep. Sure her body was trembling uncontrollably and her heart felt like it could give out at any second, but there was something to be said about how easy it was to accept death. This was a place with no pain, no suffering, no fear. It would be so much easier to just let go. And why couldn't she just let go? Was it the thought of her parents and brother that gave her the will to live? Was it her dream to become a famous reporter some day? Or was it the frightened yet determined eyes of James Baker that pulled her back from that dark blissful place?
After that first breath of new life, Penny had trouble remembering how to continue breathing. The medicine had kicked in by now, but it would take her a minute to recover fully from the whole ordeal. She blinked and stared at James's face as if she had never seen it so clearly before. "What......" Her voice was raspy though she couldn't figure our why. She felt as if she had been screaming for hours. And perhaps She had been.
