Mr. Guy's attempt at comfort fell short of its mark. Dietre supposed it was easy to consider insanity interesting, it meant you were divergent from the norm, did it not? And everyone thought normalcy was boring, right? He'd give up his unique 'trait' in an instant, if he could. He made some noncommittal noise, not wanting to disagree, but he felt that it'd be too rude not to acknowledge the man's kindness in some way.
He shrank back unconsciously from Nikhil's continual gaze, but was soon enticed to meet it by the earnest light he thought he saw there. Mr. Guy's apparent interest in him sparked the same back. Dietre took in the man's dark, almost copper toned skin and his black curls with a sidelong glance. On their small island, there were certainly few people, if any, who looked similar. Distracted, he almost didn't catch what was being said to him. He sat up, blinking his mind clear, and tried to untangle Mr. Guy's speech into something that made sense.
"No, I don't suppose so." As long as he paid attention to the how of things, he could manage the rest of it. There were, of course, subjects he found dull. Math for one. And being required to take gym class was torture, but he wouldn't have to worry about that with Mr. Guy, he was sure.
The plan for the summer was laid out for him, and he nodded along, comfortable enough with what was being proposed. He'd do whatever was asked of him, that was his role as student. Dietre liked when things were clear cut like that. But for the moment, he still didn't feel as though they had fallen into the teacher/student positions. He still felt like he was expected to be a host or something, and that he was failing at it, to the point where he needed to apologize.
"I'm sorry, if I'm...not..." Dietre was apparently incapable of finishing the majority of his sentences on the first go. "If I make you uncomfortable. We don't have company here very often." He glanced farther into the house. "Should I get you something? To eat? Or drink, maybe?" That was what people did when they had someone over, right? Offer drinks or something?
