"Sorry," Calvin apologized sincerely, squeezing Katie's shoulder a little. "My sister was whining about how she never sees me anymore so I had to pacify her with a movie and some conversation. It went later than I expected." He smiled at her belated offer, shaking his head slightly. Getting a ride certainly would've been easier, but he wasn't sure if it would've been worth it to be shut up in a car with Katie's brother and Mao. It was bad enough that James would be watching his every move at the camp site, and Mao... he was just Mao.
"It's okay. I handled it. All those hours of training at the rock gym are starting to pay off, I guess." His smile widened a little to hide how unsure he was of his last comment. Other guys talked about how big and strong they were, right? Maybe Calvin could too. Of course, it'd be easier to do if he weren't such a scrawny nerd. "Anyway, what have I missed?"
