"Do you mean it, or is that what they say to keep people from panicking," she challenged, though her sideways grin made her question one she didn't expect a follow-up. "First time nerves, I guess."
Before she could take a seat, she heard her name called from the pit below the stage. Her choir teacher was standing side-by-side with the director, and they both seemed pleased that she had showed. "You made it!"
"I had to get okay from my dad." Saya replied, then admitted as she tucked her hair behind her ears. "I don't have a song, is that alright?"
"Not a problem," the teacher handed her pages from the script and sheet music. "Every girl is singing the same song, only a few bars. Then we'll have you read from the script, first by yourself and then with others in the cast."
"Thanks," she said as her eyes fell on the notes, smiling as she noted the song. Saya began to mouth the words under her breath as she read, relief washing over her as the notes fell comfortably in her range. She caught herself as she started to hum, then glanced up. "Is there somewhere that I can practice?"
