"Yeah.. yeah, mom. Okay," Mary-Beth rolled her eyes as she waited outside of the tattoo parlor. "Okay. I really have to go mom. I'll call you later and we can talk about it then. What?" She paused as her mother started rambling about going no where with her life and college being a complete waste of her time. "Thanks mom. Yeah, I love you too." Mary-Beth didn't even bother to say good bye as she hung up on her mother. The nice thing about being in New York City while her parents were in Pennsylvania, was that they couldn't keep an eye on her or tell her what to do. Just like they couldn't yank her from the tattoo parlor she was about to go back to.
She'd already talked with one of the guys who worked there about getting one of her drawings inked on her. It had been a fair few years since her brother had passed away but she wanted to do something to commemorate him and what better way than to get something inked on her body as a permanent reminder? So, Mary-Beth had put her art skills to work and crafted an elaborate and detailed drawing that read in fancy script: I'd rather laugh with the sinners, than cry with the saints. It was from Billy Joel's Only the Good Die Young, which seemed to sum up what had happened and her relationship with her brother very well, so it only seemed appropriate to use that quote.
The only thing left to do was to pick somewhere that she wanted to have it put on her body. She'd toyed with the idea of putting it down her leg or one of her arms but eventually, Mary-Beth figured out the best place to put it. So as she walked into the shop, Mary-Beth heard the little bell ring and she looked around for the original guy she had talked to. "Mike?" There was no answer. "Hello?" She had an appointment after all, and she could see the drawing all set on the table, ready for her body.
