Eugene wasn't exactly great friends with Brixie's cousin Lawrence. But he had known the older man for a good chunk of his life, especially since the now-doctor had baby-sat for Brixie, and pretty often she was hanging out with the weird Polish kid from a few doors down. When he was younger, Eugene had thought Larry was super cool. Older, really smart, often so much calmer than Eugene was himself. He'd wanted to be like Larry when he'd gotten older - totally cool and collected. Of course, as he'd aged, Eugene realized Larry was a little neurotic, and he could be easily flustered if certain topics were brought up. The intern no longer wanted to be like his former idol, but he still liked the guy, and still called him on occasion, even if they didn't hang out and ran in completely different circles.
So it probably wasn't a total surprise when the younger man called the doctor, his long, horsey face hovering above the other man's wrist phone with the pre-recorded goofy grin. "Hey, Larry, you there?"
