Well, there's no receptionist to yell, so Laura won't be concerned either. "Westmark?" Laura asks, as she braces her palms against the huge marble desk and hops up to, after a brief moment of wriggling, sit on the edge and pull the phone within easy range.
She stares at it for a moment. It has push buttons. You can have push buttons? Even the dial doesn't get much use in her experience, because you always wind up needing an operator.
But Roy has a private number, so she beckons to Caro and lifts the telephone off the hook. "You need to know a number or get the operator," she says.
