When he opens his eyes, they feel crusty, which is not only gross but doesn't allow him to get a good idea of where he was at. Something was on his hands, but the backs of them were enough to wipe at his eyes as he semi sat up from the ground. Blinking rapidly, he saw trees... and that was about it. They didn't look like the kind of tress on the Academy grounds so that ugly sort of pit of stomach feeling didn't go away. Pulling himself to his feet, he was at least still clothed, though this suit needed a hell of a dry cleaning. He looked like he'd been beat up after trying to sell the squirrels insurance or something and David Samson could only hope he had done something so sane in his temporary blackout.
Cracking his neck, he rolled his shoulders and took long slow breaths. What was the last thing he remembered? Janis had been going to Wes's room and got lost somewhere in a very small amount of space. People at the school were some how going angry or crazy, perhaps both and May Parker had gathered those left to... to do something, the rest was sort of hazy as Dave took in his surroundings and tried to get some sort of focus going on. Right, well... whatever happened was over and now he needed to get back. Just find a pay phone, make a shameful call and just get this over with.
He had walked for sometime and started to get a little worried. The sun had set and he didn't seem to have found a street or a road or even a little path and this was not boding well. Swallowing hard, he was also starving so it didn't help matters much. Where the hell was he? He'd waken up before just a few blocks away, so being in the middle of the wilderness wasn't exactly common fare. Rubbing his shoulders briskly, he was starting to get a little cold out here too. Breathing warm air into his hands, he just kept going as there was no map to consult and he wasn't very good at the whole 'wilderness survival' thing. Overnight camping at a faire or two had resulted in two broken tents and a lot of sleeping in his car, so checking his direction by the stars was right out.
Owls hooted, insects chittered, all in all normal forest sounds, so Dave just kept his wits about him until the howling started. He nearly tripped and fell after the first one, whipping his head around so fast to catch the sound that had snuck up behind him. His heart triphammered in his chest, teeth gritting as the howling grew louder, closer and then....
...when he came to again, it was once again in the dirt and the leaves, but a new addition had arrived.
Blood.
With a groan, he looked at his suit, now ripped and torn and spattered with dark red patches of blood. Patting himself down, he found he was pretty sore, but intact. It was...
It was someone else's.
Lying back on the ground for a moment, he looked up at the sky in a bit of daze. With a shaky hand coming to his head, he placed it on his forehead and said in a croaky voice, "This is it. This is my life now."
Crunching of leaves and footsteps started up behind him, but David didn't care. He even closed his eyes, hoping whatever was coming at him would just finish the job at this point. He was tired and in no mood.
"He's alive alright," came a voice as they trotted up next to him and knelt down. When fingers touched his neck, he opened his eyes and saw a large man in a smart and well appointed red uniform and a flat brimmed hat. "Can you hear me, sir?"
Confused, Dave nodded, "Yeah?"
"Well, you look a long way from the boardroom, eh?," the man smiled and that's when David put everything together.
