Terrible Choices
Title: Terrible Choices
Author: [info]jlsigman
Rating: G
Word count: 295
Prompt: May 31 - Final Fantasy X, Bahamut, 'A hard choice for any child to make, even one over a thousand years old'

He was so tired of dreaming.

They all were; all the dreamers wanted the blessing of sleep without dreams. They had been dreaming so long, most had forgotten the reason for creating the dream in the first place.

Not him. He clung to the hope that inspired the dream – that one day the civilization that brought forth Yu Yevon could bring forth the one to finally defeat him.

But it had been so long. And he was so tired.

The rest of the Fayth didn’t straddle the worlds as he did; while the Aeons dreamed, they didn’t live the dream as he did. Oh, Shiva might follow a handsome man for a while, or Yojimbo might inspire a war leader for a generation, but they didn’t get their hands dirty, desperately combing through the dream people for the one who could change both realities.

Bahamut had a child’s frightening focus, and in the end he found what he was looking for, as he always did. The man was physically strong, mentally quick (when sober), and easily adapted to whatever situation he found himself in. He inspired fanatical loyalty from those around him, with one exception.

It was that exception that was tearing Bahamut apart. He had been a real child once, back when the Spira was much younger and the act of becoming an Aeon was much different from the perversion it was now.

He remembered a mother’s loving touch, a father’s coarse exhortations.

He remembered Spira without Sin.

He comforted himself with the knowledge that when this warrior ultimately defeated Sin, the child would fade into the dream and not suffer for long.

A tear rolled down a shadowed face, splashing into the ocean. The ripples blended two worlds, and one was carried over.

*loves on thoughts of Jecht*

It is interesting to wonder who Bahamut might have been. Son to some high ranking official, random street child chosen to power a fayth...I'd like to think he was related to Lenne and made into an Aeon for her *silly grin*

Yes, it would be a sad and hard choice to make, one not made without regrets but made because it was the lesser of two evils. Defeat Sin, end the dream, free Spira. Sacrifice the few and the memory for the real lives of so many more.

Bahamut is the best fayth...after sexy Yojimbo XD *has many porny thoughts* Bahamut is certainly the best dressed fayth from what I recall *grin*

Apologies, comment made while drinking XD

He is the King of Dragons for a damn good reason. ;-) I had an idea for a post X-2 fic to bring the summons back, because Spira just can't survive without this Meddler around. ;-)

The fayth have strong enough convictions to not become fiends...how will you work around Yuna's 'grand sending'?

I was thinking on summons the other day while looking through the FF8 Guardian Forces and the FF7 materia. There needs to be Leviathan in FFX...but that's just my opinion.

In X-2, Bahamut says something about how the aeons were just asleep, which is why Shuyin could manipulate them. IMO, it's not too much of a leap to have them wake up after a few years, tan, rested, and ready. ;-)
