May 15th - Unwelcome
Title: Unwelcome
Rating: PG
Author: veracity
Fandom: Stargate Atlantis
Characters: Sheppard’s team
Disclaimer: Just playing in the neighbor’s sandbox.
Spoilers: Early Season 4
Summary: Sometimes the struggle doesn’t end the way you want.
Notes: A slightly different take than what I had planned, but I think it fits the prompt.
Prompt: Stargate Atlantis, team, someone to watch over me

Teyla smiled at the clerk. “We are fine.” The woman had been following them throughout the shop for the past half hour, straightening a shelf when they noticed back. Rodney had already loudly proclaimed the quality and variety inferior to some place called Zeller’s. By the tone, she assumed it was not a compliment, so it was decided by gestures she would purchase something small in order to create a small window of goodwill. Creating alliances had been the point of this outing, but with her team the concept hadn’t lasted long.

The name Zeller’s had produced a snort from John, who was looking at some food to carry back to Atlantis, to see what could be used or ingested. Having ships and the Midway Bridge was useful, but it was good to know what was edible for those from Earth. Better to be prepared in her experience, especially after the Udurian fruit incident last month.

Ronon looked at the small knives, pulling out several from his hair to compare, and simply walked away. When he had put them down, it was obvious a sale was not going to happen. Usually he had slightly better manners, but the glares he got at the tavern earlier for the Satedan tattoo had not helped. The knives were perfect for women however. She purchased a small, thin blade and harness to fit up her sleeve.

Done, she laid her basket on the counter. It was full of small things to give to the Athosian children and hopefully leave some positive association with Lanteans. In a galaxy where the Wraith and Asurans were in the middle of battle, it was important to have alliances and friends. Enemies would sell you for the reward money, or the ability to stay alive, but those on good terms would at least attempt to let you know what was happening; a rather important aspect in her opinion.

As they stepped outside, the woman closed and locked the door. The streets were empty as well. The message was clear: they were not welcome here. Walking along the path to the Stargate, she noticed people looking out the window, grim looks on their faces. No, they were not welcome at all.
