Knockturn Alley and Knocking on Rocks
By Jaclyn Wood
Knockturn Alley was host to a street fair to commemorate the revamping of the offshoot from Diagon Alley. For many years, the location had been somewhat avoided by a majority of the wizarding population until a transformation had occurred.
It was quite a sight on June 21st with food trucks, carnival rides and local vendors selling their wares. As well, the local shops offered discounts to patrons and newcomers alike. The Angry Nifflers, Acid Wands, Danger Harper and the Flying Wombats all performed for the excited attendees at the bandstand, many of whom came to the street fair precisely to see their favourite performers.
This was all done not only to celebrate the upturn of Knockturn Alley, but to ensure that the steady incline of business continues to flourish in the future.
If you were unable to attend at Knockturn Alley, there were also mysterious rocks placed all through wizarding UK and Ireland. Several onlookers witnessed citizens trying to puzzle out where the rocks had come from and what their purpose was.
It was determined, by an unknown curious volunteer, that once the rocks were touched by a living being, it exploded in brightly coloured powdered paint known as gulal. This was followed very closely by a loud group of voices yelling ‘It’s Summer!”. The crowd can only be assumed as an anonymous group of artists that dispersed once they’d made their exclamation.
The gulal could not be removed by any magical means. Those covered in the vibrant powder tried, frequently, but were stuck being walking embodiments of a summer solstice celebration. It was reported that one of the colour-afflicted returned to normal after twenty four hours and by the end of it, was laughing at the situation and was glad to be made a part of the solstice rejoicing.
