The last few days had been taxing, to say the least. With Leanne's testimony of having witnessed young Leo Jones-Hopkins in a home in Cheapside the investigation of the couple that lived there had come to a quick halt. The son of an Ethiopian diplomat and his wife owned the home that was described in Leanne Pucey's testimony. Tola Alazar was considered an upstanding citizen in the area and had never had much trouble cooperating with anyone. It didn't help, of course, that his wife, Ani Alazar, was friends with Lionel Vance's wife. Lionel Vance being the Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. With so many testimonies flooding in from the media push to find the missing child it was difficult to weed through all of them. Graham and Alicia had interviewed and investigated the smaller claims all across the UK. In the last week they'd probably looked into about 20 different scenarios of the child being in places he certainly was not. Marcus Flint was still in custody and still standing strong against the interrogation processes. Teams of obliviators stood in on the questioning, and the auror team in charge, John Porter and Michael Asher, were making very little leeway. What was odd to Graham, however, was that Flint continued to refuse legal council. He'd even heard Marcus' friends, on numerous occasions, trying to convince him otherwise. To Graham... the man was guilty. The case was solved. No need to keep looking. Course... Alicia, for whatever reason, kept coming back to Leanne's testimony. "I just can't shake the feeling that there's more to that Cheapside house...." she said as they left a Basiq Alley deli where they'd just had lunch. "Vance stood up for the Alazar's," Graham shrugged. “Sure,” Alicia nodded considering the obvious, “But… they claimed the kid Leanne saw was a nephew…” “So?” “Leanne’s not color blind, I doubt she’d mistake an ethiopian kid for a white one…” “Racist…” Graham jokingly teased, which properly got him a glare. Either way, Graham was unimpressed with the logic. “There's supposed to be a team keeping an eye on their house. I think if they were involved they'd have been caught by now." "We should check it out..." Alicia offered. "We're in the area... see if the other team needs help." Graham narrowed his eyes at the woman, "Is that why we came all the way down here for lunch?" Alicia's brow raised with a devilish grin. "Maybe..." The woman took Graham's arm and they side alonged to the alley between the magically concealed home and a muggle clothing store. It was 5 story walkup with elaborately designed statues out front. Their back garden was walled off with a stone wall. While Graham adjusted to the quick movement through space, Alicia summoned the help of a dumpster and climbed onto it to peek into the garden. "What are you doing?" Graham hissed at a whisper, "We shouldn't be here!" "Will you please for once remember that you're a man and this is our job?" Alicia countered sans-whisper. "Now get up here and look at this place." The garden was neatly groomed with year round foliage - clearly enchanted with a greenhouse bubble spell for year round tropical foliage. Graham was immediately impressed when he climbed his way onto the metal dumpster. Just as he'd given the garden a pan the back door opened and the hitwizards, clearly breaching protocol, ducked to avoid being seen. The pair waited a moment - listening for some sort of acknowledgement that they'd been spotted. When the call of inquiry didn't come, Alicia slowly peeked back over the stone wall. "Holy fuck..." she whispered. "I knew it!" Graham tugged at her work robes to get back down. "There are three children--" she smacked his hand away and reached for the man's collar. She lifted him to see for himself. Three children ranging from ages 7 to 10 were carrying large black trash bags to two plastic recycling containers near the back of the garden. They each had a particular haze to their eyes and a movement to their bodies that implied they were not performing these chores on their own volition. "...Definitely not Ethiopian kids, are they?" Graham mumbled. Alicia backhanded him in the chest. "They’re imperiused, you idiot, we need to call this in..." Auror's Porter and Asher, lead investigators on the missing child case, had made an executive decision over Lionel Vance. As it was evaluated that the Head of the DMLE clearly had a conflict of interest on the case. Porter and Asher brought the visual confirmation of Montague and Spinnet to Harry Potter, Head of the Auror Department. Potter attained a rushed warrant and the Alazar home was stormed by aurors and hitwizards within the hour. When they got inside the immaculately designed home, obliviators interrogated Mr. and Mrs. Alazar who were profoundly thrown off guard by the invasion. While their occlumency was strong, a moment of hesitation in Mrs. Alazar’s answers led the investigative team to an unsanctioned magical addition in their basement. The additional rooms were home to a 2,000 square foot magical carpet factory. About 12 children were imperiused to weave the carpets while two house elves who looked as though they hadn’t seen the light of day in centuries enchanted the product to fly. With further interrogation it was confessed that the Alazar’s worked in one of the largest underground markets of flying carpets and enchanted tapestries. They had received an order for over 50 thousand pieces in November of last year and had required an expansion of their labour force. Children, of course, were much easier to imperius than adults. Leo Jones-Hopkins was among the 8 children who’d been rescued alive. Graham and Alicia were responsible for transporting the children to St. Mungos and notifying their parents. |
