OWL for Neville Longbottom Date: 25 July 1999 Characters: Lavender Brown, Neville Longbottom Location: Respective Status: Private Summary: Lavender tells Neville all about the slanderous Witch Weekly edition Completion: InComplete
Lavender's week had been relatively quiet, she continued to gather signatures and avoid getting hexed by nasty letters to the Prophet, but she was heartily glad when the weekend came. She spent Saturday doing things around the flat - grocery shopping, cleaning, laundry - and Sunday she planned on staying in her pajamas all day if possible.
She greeted the arrival of the latest edition of Witch Weekly with pleasure, tearing open the brown paper and turning it over to see ...
She stared a moment and then began to flip through pages. She couldn't believe that Witch Weekly would be so like the Prophet and Rita Skeeter - making up shite to sell a magazine. The more she read, the angrier she became. She'd bet Neville didn't even know yet.
Getting out her quill, she scribbled a hasty note and sent it on its way.
Dear Neville,
I don't know if you've seen it, but the latest edition of Witch Weekly has you on the front cover, along with Matt Stebbins. They're saying such awful things about you two - that you're shagging him and that Matt's part of a nasty Muggleborn conspiracy to make sure you don't have an heir. Honestly, I expected more from Witch Weekly. If I were you, I'd contact your solicitor and sue for slander (or is it libel? I never can remember.)
I suppose I should have expected they'd come up with something for you - after all, they've targeted Harry and Ginny and Hermione. You can be rest assured that I'll be canceling my subscription.
Love, Lavender
P.S. - it's been far too long since we've seen each other!
