Billy didn't consider himself to be a target for crime, but times were tough, and hard times made for desperate people. He hadn't had his guard up, probably due to having just finished off a very filling lunch at an Italian joint with a business owner he was doing logo work for. They'd conferred over lunch and Billy felt satisfied that his customer was very happy with the design he'd come up with. His pockets would be a little more full soon and he'd have some money to burn. As he walked down 4th, he was already daydreaming about how his pay would be spent. He didn't hear the footsteps running up behind him until it was too late.
Billy was surprised by a hard shove that sent him falling into a pile of trash bags set out on the curb. The assailant had taken hold of Billy's messenger bag as he'd shoved him, and as Billy fell, the thief began to run off with it. Billy got to his feet as fast as he could and began to sprint after him. "Stop!", he shouted out, hoping at least to get some attention and maybe some help. His sketches, his work, was in that bag, not to mention a cash downpayment on a job and a little baggie of good stuff for later. "Stop!", he shouted out again, running as fast as he could. He could not let this guy get away. This was bad. Very bad. Billy couldn't make out too much detail, the thief looked to be a young male, average looking, dressed plainly in jeans and a dark grey hooded sweatshirt. As he ran, he muttered in desperation, "StopstopstopstopSTOP!!!"
It was then that the unprobable happened. The kid seemed to trip on something on the sidewalk, though Billy didn't see anything there to trip on. The kid skidded to a stop on the sidewalk, but began to rise again as quickly as he was able to, knowing that Billy wasn't far behind.
