Characters: James and Lily Setting: Hogsmeade, October 16th Content: PG to PG-13 probably
Obviously Dumbledore had a funny sense of humor. He'd made James head boy after all.
Perhaps he had his reasons, but at that very moment, James was not particularly keen on hearing them. Or even considering them. Because of his new found position of responsibility, he found himself doing something that he loathed: spying on fellow students. Alright, he wasn't really spying, per se, but that's what it felt like. And for the first hour or so, it was what he was instructed by McGonagall to do. And not alone either. No. Wherever he went, Lily would be going too.
Yes, Dumbledore had a funny sense of humor indeed, and it seemed that Professor McGonagall shared in this joke. James, however, did not find it so funny. But it wasn't up to him either. And really, the awkwardness he was currently feeling as he herded a particularly slow group of third years along on the way to Hogsmeade was his own fault. It wasn't because he was in charge of making sure they all got there and back in one piece. No, it was because She was there. Of course he knew she would be. He was well aware that he would not be escaping Lily Evans now. At the beginning of the year, he wouldn't have wanted to, but now with the heavy feeling guilt weighing him down, he wanted nothing more than to not have to spend more time than was absolutely necessary with her.
And of course, with all these thoughts swirling in his head much like the light wind and autumn leaves blowing around his feet, he wasn't quite paying attention to where he was going, and clumsily bumped right into her. "Oh!" He exclaimed with perhaps a little too much gusto, quickly followed by an embarrassed and mumbled, "Sorry, didn't see you there..."
