'Forget about it?' How was she supposed to just forget about it. There must have been more to what he had said that she just hadn't figure out yet. But what else could it mean. 'Liked calling her Evans because he was the only one doing it.' That was his classic arrogance, what else could it be? 'The only one doing it.' That was true, she did always know when someone called her Evans it was James, he stood out in her mind while other random encounters with other faded. Because he was the only one who called her Evans.
Realization finally hit her. He did that so she would notice him. So she'd remember him. She was brought back to the moment, he was done with what she asked, he was going to leave and this whole night would be for nothing.
"Don't do that, don't just shut down, I hate it when boys do that. Why are you so afraid of your feelings? If your angry at me, yell, hurt, cry, happy, laugh, just do something. Don't just sit there and being stoic," Lily paused as she tried to catch his eye,
"What you said was important and I think I get what you were saying. You calling me Evans was for attention...from me. So that I'd always know it was you when someone shouted out 'Evans.' Also that I'd remember you long after our encounters were over. But I just don't get it James...what was so important about me noticing you, me remembering you? Why would it matter so much to you?" She just wanted him to tell her. Several others had told her that James's honestly fancied her, but she knew she couldn't believe it until he told her himself. Was this what he meant by it? Did he fancy her or did he do it just so he would constantly haunt her thoughts.
