Elena was very much looking forward to that evening's ball. She'd begged and pleaded with her parents until they finally gave in and allowed her to wear something a bit more sophisticated. And she was very much hoping that she would see Damon Salvatore there as well. She'd been harboring a crush on him for as long as she could remember and he'd only ever seemed to see her as some annoying child.
As they stepped through the doors of the Lockwood Mansion, her parents stepped away, leaving Elena alone for the moment. Breathing in deeply, she adjusted her gloves and then stepped forward as well, eyes scanning the room for Damon. Her breath caught at the sight of him. It always did. And she offered him a smile from across the room, waiting to see if he would excuse himself and come see her. It wouldn't have been proper for her to interrupt after all.
