The lingering bit of fear that remained disappeared as Remus kissed him. He was going to be okay. He wasn't going to die from this. Sirius wrapped his arms tightly around Remus as he kissed him back.
His mother was going to become a werewolf. She was scarred and she had lost one eye. Her wand was destroyed. Her torture devices were scattered and broken. It was all so much to happen in a single moment that his head was spinning. But he knew that once they were back at Hogwarts, and away from this nightmare of a house, he would feel that kilo weight lift from his shoulders. He wouldn't have to be afraid anymore.
He realized how tightly he was squeezing Remus, and he relaxed his grip slightly as he stepped away from the kiss. "Let's get you home," he said softly. He had made sure the room would be comfortable for them tonight. No need to go to the dormitory, where questions might be asked. Sirius would die before giving up what had happened here, for Remus' sake...he would make sure Regina was scared within an inch of his life to make sure the brat did the same. He leaned down and kissed him again, softly, and then went for the ajar cage door, without even a last glance at his mother. He vividly remembered what he wanted to remember. She didn't matter anymore.
