The wash of rain against their heavy, naked windows had prepared Krys and Auryn for the cold night, but the corner of Auryn's mouth still twitched when the two got off the light rail a few minute's ride from their apartment in downtown Innovo. It was a cold and wet affair, one that the street lamps illuminated and seemed amused by as Auryn pulled his hood over his head and glanced at Krys, one eyebrow lifted as if to suggest that they had tea and coffee at home, and needn't have come out in such weather.
It wasn't said aloud, though; nothing was as Auryn led his roommate off the platform and down onto the busy street sidewalk that led to the Crevasse Coffee House, the common haunt for the caffeine desperate and addicted. It was a nondescript building to be sure, but Auryn liked it because it was small and comfortable, more than quiet enough for his tastes. Pulling the heavy wooden door aside for Krys to enter, Auryn almost let it shut again. Though the small cafe wasn't overcrowded, it was much busier than usual. Auryn sighed.
"Figures," he muttered low enough that Krys would likely see nothing but the movement of his lips. Most of the shops around Innovo had been crowded since the announcement of the Fruitful Law, as if people couldn't congregate in their house and gossip. Auryn was tired of hearing about it. It sent the hair hair on the back of his neck up every time.
Careful not to touch any of the wet and unfamiliar bodies as he weaved through the crowd, Auryn found an empty table and slid his coat off, hooking it over the back of one of the chairs. "What do you want," he said to Krys, eyes traveling over the shoulders of those gathered, watching as a few, and then more, collected their things and left.
