She accepted the items with a downright painfully happy smile. This was wonderful, that everything had lined up so perfectly. It was lovely that he was so agreeable, really. Most men would have refused to let her slither out of their grasp, and he was ready and willing to let her go on to bigger and better things.
A nice guy, to be sure.
"Thank you. I really do think we'll function much better as friends than spouses, don't you? Don't worry, I won't completely abandon you. Trust me, you're going to wish I had by the time I'm done. You seem like quite the fellow, and I have no problem saying I'd like to know you better." She paused, and added, "I'd just prefer to do it without a ring on my finger. I'm sure you'd agree."
She tucked the pen back in her pocket, and put the papers back into the envelope. A great feeling of accomplishment reigned, and she couldn't help the blissful expression on her face. She could only assume he was as happy as she was, not that she could really tell. He seemed to be like a passive guy, no real standout expression was on his face.
"I might go out in a smaller, stabler boat as long as it isn't a sailboat. The last time I was in a sailboat, the idiot running the thing was too busy trying to impress me to pay attention to the actual craft. That... big... wooden thing -- I think he called it a 'boom', what an ironically fitting name -- swung around and clocked me right in the jaw, and knocked me in the water. It was terrible, just terrible. I couldn't talk for weeks, my cheek was bruised, and I still don't think my jaw works the same. I can only hope you're a little bit better with your sea-craft."
She tucked some hair behind her ear, taking a moment to almost enjoy her surroundings. The feeling of water beneath her was a little unsettling, but it did give you a feeling of being closer to the water. Not to mention the beautiful sun, the smell of the sea...
That was enough of that! She would much rather be on land. "You'd have to find me a habitable deserted island. There has to be at least one out there somewhere. Now, what about that dinner I promised you? Did you want it now, or later?"
