While he looked down at the papers, she contented herself with glancing around the boat. It was even more rustic than she had been expecting, and her arms went around herself, as if she subconciously thought she needed protection. Really, the boat was in the harbor and not about to explode. The second she noticed the fragile looking position, she moved her arms to a more satisfactory one -- crossed.
He did take his time with reading them, didn't he? She might have taken up her foot tapping again, but she wasn't exactly sure of her balance on this thing. It was probably best if all parts of her foot stayed adhered to the floor.
"Of course I filled my part out already. I don't want to waste your time. Do you have a pen? Oh, I suppose not. I have one, if you like, so you don't have to go searching for one." The sundress she was wearing had convenient pockets, and she'd slipped one in there. She'd made sure to have one, because she was determined to have everything ready.
"See, dear, I told you this would be easy. All you have to do is sign, and you're a free man. Free as you can be when your government wants you to get married and procreate. You at least have this thing." When she said it, she waved an arm at the boat, which left her unsteady again and after a quick wobble to regain her balance, she continued, "I suppose you could just sail away, find a deserted island, and stay there for the rest of your life."
That didn't sound half bad, but then again, the island in her head was outfitted like a five-star hotel.
"Come to think, if you do go hole up on an island, take me with you. As for those papers..."
She held out the pen for him to take, if he so desired. Not quite under his nose or demanding, yet. If he stalled much longer, she could possibly get there. The pen, like everything else about her, was needlessly expensive. It was one of those ridiculous fountain pens that nobody actually used, just had on their desk to look impressive. She had about eight of them. In fact, he could probably keep it, and she wouldn't have cared.
