Summary: The meeting. Hopefully a good one!
He was nervous.
Just a little nervous. Really nervous would manifest differently, in spastic energy and even in rare cases, OCD-like sorting and alignment of things. Finger drumming. Looking around like someone posessed. Looking quite strange, and some might argue, a touch soft in the head. Thankfully, he'd passed that stage of nervous about 6 hours ago. A night of not sleeping had drained it right out of him, even though sleep hadn't ever decided to come.
Adam, however, was pretty good at handling lack of sleep. He looked rested, even if he wasn't, and he'd even done his best to make sure he didn't look like he'd just rolled out of bed. He still hadn't heard from Kayla, and even though most people wouldn't get worried over that, he was. Just a little. He talked to the girl almost every day, so when the day came that he didn't hear from her, it was a little weird.
He was sure she was busy. That had to be it. So he didn't have to bother her with his problems.
No, bad thoughts. This was not a 'problem'. This was just... He didn't have any way to describe what this was. He didn't want to say it was an obligation, because that just seemed a little wrong. And at the same time, he didn't want to call it a date, because it didn't really feel like that, either. It was ... an introduction. Nothing more, nothing less.
From a few scattered online conversations with Krysanthe, she seemed like a nice enough girl. Just the idea of getting married made him feel a little sick. How the hell were you supposed to address a situation like this? 'Hey, I'm Adam. I guess somewhere along the line we're gonna have to procreate, so let's just set a date, see if it worked, and if not, reschedule.' Some might be able to say that, but the second he said that out loud, he'd find the nearest bridge and jump.
He'd shown up more than an hour early, simply because he had nothing to do. And, of course, he didn't want to be late. He wanted to make sure he was there first. He'd debated for nearly an hour if he should buy something to present her. The last (and only) girlfriend of his had gotten a flower or a gift or something almost every time he saw her. That seemed a little premature, at best.
But he was going to buy her coffee. Or ... a cookie. She liked cookies. Bags of them.
...and old people.
That was at least two things he knew about her.
His table was spotless, and he was beginning to regret not buying himself something for the wait. If it had been five minutes, that would have been one thing. However, considering he'd been here for about an hour now, he really could have used the coffee. She had to be here soon, though. He could wait.
And... back came the nervousness.
