Kayla felt like a doll being pulled around against its free will. While living with River had advantages, she certainly couldn't recall what those were at the moment. "Will you get off me?" she asked, jerking her arm out of River's grasp. Looking around the room, Kayla frowned when she noticed something missing. "There's no food. Like hell I'm getting up without food."
Rolling over onto her stomach, Kayla buried her head under her pillow, knowing that she wouldn't be able to get rid of River that easily. She knew her boss could be rather persuasive, so she prepared herself for another attack. During the first hour of each day, Kayla's fighting spirit remained nonexistent, which usually meant trouble for her when River was in a mood. Kayla knew she'd never get back to sleep, but she'd at least try.
