Chili from a can. Canned chili. Even with her broad taste in culinary goodness, Krys couldn't deny that chili coming from an aluminum container had some sort of magical goodness. That and it was one of the foods that didn't turn out to be a disaster, for her and for the kitchen (most of the time, anyway).
After making sure it was at the appropriate temperature (reading instructions are very important when making canned food), Krys gathered her reading materials--a manga with glittery print and flowers on the cover--and with some difficulty, jumped onto the counter and sat there.
It was a very relaxing place to be. The temperature became slightly warm from the stove, the aroma of chili was started to fill the kitchen, and the fact that the silence was comfortable made this feel like home. Krysanthe smiled to herself and started to thumb through the pages of what she described as artistic torture, though maybe the artist would argue against her.
After a few minutes of studying the drawings to checking the time, Krys started to sing softly to herself, willing her mind to not think about her future.
"I'm lucky I'm in love with my best friend, lucky to have been where I have been, lucky to be coming home again..." Krysanthe sang almost breathlessly, knowing that Auryn would probably not appreciate her belting out opera music at the top of her lungs. Not that she would, but Auryn was extremely sensitive about those things. "Lucky we're in love every way, lucky to have stayed where we have stayed, lucky to be coming home someday..."
It was time to check on the chili, but the drop from the counter seemed a bit higher than she imagined. Was she always this short? Obviously yes, but the fact always seemed to annoyingly true whenever situations like these called for tallness. Well, the chili could wait a few moments longer while she gathered her courage to come down from this counter-turned mountain.
