Auryn heard the tapping of the small dog's nails against the wood before he registered Krysanthe's heavy footsteps. As he finished filling out the chart that he'd been working on, Auryn watched Krys move, zombie-like, through the room before burying herself in his futon. Okay. Well, she hadn't done that since they were seven or so.
It was the marriage, Auryn assumed, though in truth it could have been anything from something happening to Krysanthe's family to a spike in hormones that led her to his bed. Usually, however, Krysanthe was quite resilient, though she tended to let things pile up on her until it was all too much--and then came the breakdown. This one, at least, had only involved his roommate eating all the Thai leftovers from the night before in addition to a pint of chocolate ice cream. And the monotony of the undead life. There was that, too.
Pushing back from his desk, Auryn took off his glasses and pinched the bridge of his nose. He'd been listening to Krysanthe downstairs for a few hours, studying between, wondering about his future marital status between the heartbeats...it was all giving him quite the headache. When Auryn had a headache, he liked to curl up on his futon or under the kotatsu. Krysanthe was making the former quite impossible.
"Get out," Auryn ordered Kungpao, who immediately turned tail and rain down the staircase. Nanashi jumped down from her perch atop Auryn's dresser and began to clean herself.
Padding over to where he'd set up his futon a few hours earlier, Auryn gave the Krys-shaped lump a solid shove with his foot. "Come out," he said, "move over, and tell me why you've decided that attempting to gain five pounds in one day is a good idea."
