Zacharias felt the brief moment of stiffening and tilted his head to the side. “Okay?” he asked, his voice curious but in a light way. He knew they were feeling things out and he didn’t yet know just what Jake was and wasn’t comfortable with.
His eyes wandered over Jake and the riding outfit. “Well, you look very good in it, if that means anything.” With a smile, he held up a finger. “One moment,” he said, and went to the hall closet to pull out a pair of boots. Zacharias sat down on an antique styled bench placed against the wall of the foyer, and pulled the boots on, one at a time before he rose.
“Let’s go see the horses, shall we?” he said, returning to Jake and reaching around him to open the door.
