WHAT: The pair catch up on each other's lives, and go clubbing!
RATING: Low
STATUS: Completed
Gwendolyn was beyond excited at the upcoming evening. Having just spent a rather successful afternoon out with Jake looking for flats, she’d popped home briefly to change before meeting Jake again. Granted it wasn’t a quick change as Gwendolyn usually quite fussy about her appearance, especially when she was going out, but it wasn’t long at all before she was standing in front of her full-length mirror. She turned one way, then the next as she observed every inch, making sure she looked flawless.
Finally satisfied, Gwendolyn, grabbed her hand, bag and headed for her fireplace. Throwing the floor powder into the flames, Gwen waited a moment before stepping into them. In seconds she was stumbling out into the Dorny residence, pausing once she’d regained her balance in order to brush the soot of her red dress.
The House Elf ‘Fierlin’ appeared in the hallway having heard someone use the Floo portal. “Madame Montgomery!”, he grinned, bowing graciously. “Master Jacob said you would be coming this evening”, he said, continuing to bow. “Might I say Fierlin thinks you look absolutely perfect!”, he exclaimed, excitedly. Standing up, pointed down the hall to the staircase which led to Jake’s wing of the house. “He waits for you upstairs!”, he explained, muttering something absent-mindedly to himself.
Jake gave himself a look over in the mirror. It had been an absolutely crazy 24 hours, with the dinner with Zach, buying a flat, and now going out for a night on the town. It was the perfect finish to it all, and Jake was more than in the mood for going out and getting suitably sloshed. Dressed to impressed in a sharp Armani suit minus the jacket, Jake checked his sleek physique. Such a calorific dinner the night before was a nightmare but thankfully the extra sit ups had returned his stomach to being flat once again. He felt good.
For the most part house elves tended to freak Gwendolyn out a little. With their weird heads and pointy ears. Somehow, though Fierlin had always been an exception. Possibly because he was incredibly kind to her, or just because of the comments like those at the moment. She did so love compliments. “Thank you, Fierlin, it’s kind of you to say.” She said with a smile, then nodded at the comment about Jake. “I’ll go find him then!” Gwendolyn called over her shoulder as she headed further down the hall along the familiar route to Jake’s room.
Arriving at his bedroom a few moments later, Gwendolyn quietly opened the door, and leaned against the frame as she watched him. She smiled. “You look as trim as ever.” Gwendolyn said finally, her eyes flashing as she stepped into his room. She moved across the floor almost as if she owned the place, more than comfortable in her current surroundings. “I’m glad you agreed to come, darling.”
Jake flashed an absolutely brilliant smile as Gwen entered the room. Aside from her looking drop dead gorgeous as per usual, Jake had missed his best friend horribly these past few weeks. It was unusual for them to spend such little time together over the summer, as she usually came with them to Versailles, but this summer was not an average summer in many ways. “Darling!”, he exclaimed, picked her up and twirling her around, eventually laying her down gently on his bed. “I am glad too, and thank you again for coming today with me to chose the flat - you made a dire experience a fun one”, he smiled, running his fingers across the side of her face, lovingly. “I can’t actually believe how much I have to tell you”, he added as an afterthought, but there would be plenty of time for that.
His eyes ran over her body, and admired her red dress. “You look stunning”, he beamed.
Gwen giggled as Jake picked her up, and whirled her around. She smiled down at him, arms going around his neck as they twirled. She had missed this.. Him. It just wasn’t the same not seeing him every day like she practically had for the past seven years. There was no one in this world who knew her better, and to know that he had been having a tough time had hurt her even more than spending time apart had.
“Of course, you know you needed my expert flat buying opinion,” Gwen said with a laugh as she rolled onto his bed, tugging Jake down with her. As if she’d had any more clue than him, but it had been a fine afternoon. Jake’s fingers caressed her cheek and she smiled at him, leaning in for a quick peck before laying back down on the bed. “Well, I want to hear every last moment, darling. Don’t you dare leave anything out.”
“Thank you. I’m glad you like it.” Gwen added, smiling as his eyes swept over her. “I’m hoping the boys tonight will too.”
“There will be plenty of time for that love”, Jake grinned, selecting a tie from his extensive wardrobe and putting it on swiftly, “So where are we going tonight?”, he asked. Gwen was far better practiced in Muggle clubbing than he was. “I’m sure they will too”, he grinned, eyeing her again. “How could they not, darling?”
As Jake moved to retrieve his tie, Gwendolyn sat up on the bed, watching him with interest. She nodded in approval at the selection, even if she knew him better than that, and that his selections usually met with her approval. “I was thinking this little place in Soho.” Gwen said as she slid over to the side of the bed, standing up. She smoothed her dress out, before glancing over at Jake again. “They can’t. I’m sure I will have my fair share of admirers.” She smiled and winked at Jake. “As will you.”
Jake grinned. Perhaps she was right, but no-one more interesting to him than Zacharias Smith at the moment. “Sounds great”, Jake nodded. Soho was well known for it’s more intimate and interesting bars, as well as a string of gay clubs. “Is it male attention you are after tonight, then?”, he asked, eyes twinkling mischievously.
Gwendolyn laughed at Jake’s question. Her eyes matched his, glinting with mischief. “Maybe. I’m not sure yet, but the club we’re going to is known for both.” Gwendolyn said, answering his unasked question. She wasn’t really sure what she was in the mood for, but whichever gender it was, Gwen intended to have a good time.
Jake’s brows raised, and he picked her up off the bed scooping her up in his arms. “Let’s go then”, he grinned, mentally checking that he had brought some Muggle cash along, a quick pat in his pocket told them that he had. The pair made their way outside onto the grounds of the estate, and they disapparated with a sharp crack!
Laughing as Jake scooped her up, Gwendolyn, was off the bed and making her way with Jake out of his place. It was a bit difficult keeping up with his longer strides in her heels, but she managed well enough. Once outside she apparated them both to an alley not far from the club. Taking Jake’s hand she tugged him in the direction of the club. They paid their entry and in moments were inside, loud music blaring.
The bar was heaving, but thankfully mostly on the dance floor. Jake made his way with Gwen through the crowds, attracting an impressive amount of attention from both genders. There was something about going clubbing which Jake actually enjoyed despite his generally reserved self. It was the freedom of meeting people that he enjoyed, the fact that he could really let himself be himself. In Wizarding society there were all these expectations of how one should act, and Jake absolutely loathed it. Smiling politely at a few guys and girls, Jake ordered some drinks for him and Gwen, and then moved to sit down in a quieter spot for now.
“So what’s been going on with you?”, he asked, figuring he would start with how she was doing first. They might be there all night with him.
Gwendolyn walked with Jake across the club, her eyes looking at the various patrons as she moved. She noticed more than a fair share of appreciative glanced in both of their directions, which always gave her a little thrill. Despite her general dislike of Muggles, there was something about these clubs that made it so much better. Perhaps it was the anonymous nature, the fact that no one judged, or just the lack of a need to be on her best behaviour. There were so many fabulous evening spent just dancing among strangers. She could be the perfect pure-blooded child, Wilkes and Selwyn daughter in public. Here, here she could be anything she wanted.
With their drinks in hand, Gwendolyn settled down in a chair next to him. “The usual, bit of shopping, seeing the girls, trying to inject some life into Izzie’s social life.” Gwen said, taking a sip of her sour apple martini. “Was over at Pansy’s the other day, she gave me these divine sandals. I’ll have to show them to you next time. She, Tracey and some of the girls are coming over tomorrow for a sleepover.”
Jake raised his eyebrows. “They are gorge darling”, he exclaimed, “but then, Parkinson has always had impeccable taste”, he mused. “A sleepover?”, he pouted, “Girls only?”, he queried.
Gwen giggled and shook her head. “You’re welcome to come if you like. I just didn’t want to invite the rest of the boys.” Gwendolyn explained. “Mum just wouldn’t approve. Though she knows you well enough to know you would try anything.” Gwen added, a smirk playing on her lips as she considered the sheer number of times Jake had done just that in her house. “Anyway, I want to hear about you.”
“Darling i’d try everything”, Jake grinned, his eyes flashing mischievously “although perhaps not for a while...”, he trailed off. Adjusting himself in his seat, Jake prepared to spill his news. “So, Zacharias came over last night”, he started, licking his lips at the memory. “I cooked, we talked, it was great...played a bit of chess”, he added, “actual chess”, he confirmed, noting Gwen’s eyebrows shoot up. “There was a kiss, though”, he smiled. “He really is rather special”
Laughing at Jakes correction, Gwen pouted a little. She leaned forward in her seat awaiting a proper explanation, followed by plenty of gossip. “That’s it, just a kiss?” Gwendolyn asked, brows raiding again. She supposed that was sweet in a way, but hardly Jake’s usual style. Still, she imagined for a first date it was a bit much to ask for more. She smiled at her best friend. “I’m glad you think so.” She said as she took another sip. As long as Zacharias make Jake smile, that was all that mattered. “Are you going to see him again then?”
“Mm, for now”, Jake nodded. “I think this one is worth taking slower”, he grinned. “Yes, I think we’ll be seeing quite a bit of each other where possible”, he told her honestly, “although I still have some reservations - we are quite different in some ways, but I suppose i’ll just see how it goes. I’m off the market at least, for now”, he grinned. Truthfully he was extremely excited about ‘whatever it was’ he had with Zach, but didn’t want to tempt fate.
“If you say so.” Gwen said with a grin. “But that does not mean that you’re getting away with not giving me the details, Jakie.” Gwen added with a smirk. “I do expect to hear all about it. And if you go being all celibate on me, there shall be lectures.” Gwen added, shaking her finger at Jake before giggling. She took another sip, her face taking a bit more of a serious look. “But honestly darling, you know I’m here, any concerns at all, we talk them out, yes. Like we have with all your other boyfriends and girlfriends.”
“Celibate, ugh, never!”, Jake replied with an almost roar of laughter. Jake nodded, and leaned over to kiss her on the nose. Gwen was his everything, and he would never hold anything back from her. “Well, alright”, he began. “Mainly I don’t want to jinx anything, as it’s going well”, he said, sighing. “It’s just, we’re both rather intense, as you know”, he smiled, “and in a lot of ways we’re different people. What if he becomes too important?”, he asked her, running a hand through his hair. “With Father being out of the picture permanently more than likely I don’t have any issues with anything long term, but society will not look upon it fondly”, he sighed again. “He’s the heir of Hufflepuff, for Salazar’s sake”, Jake added.
Smiling at Jake’s response, she couldn’t help but giggle as he kissed her nose. When he went on to explain, she nodded slowly. “Yeah...” She echoed softly, reaching out to lightly run her hand across his knee. She frowned a little at the mention of society. “I don’t know darling. I mean it’s a little too soon to tell don’t you think?” She asked, giving his knee a squeeze. “What if you both irritate each other in a months time. Not to put a damper on things, darling, and I do want it to work out for you,” Gwen smiled at Jake. “Heir of Hufflepuff or not, if he doesn’t want to be with a woman, that won’t matter all that much now will it. All you should worry about is if you make each other happy. Whether that’s 6 months from now. A year of sixth, take each as it comes, yeah?” She smiled again. “Though, I promise you darling, if he ever hurts you, I will be hexing him to oblivion.”
Jake smiled at Gwen, and almost welled up a little. This was why he loved her, always there with a reality check, a funny quip, or a shoulder to cry on. Ever since he met her in Year One at school, the girl had been his soul mate. “Thanks babe”, he replied, squeezing her hand, “and although I hope you don’t have to be, I appreciate the offer of the hex”, he winked. “Details wise, we mostly talked about what each other had been up to this summer, our plans for the rest of it, how we are feeling about going back to school..”, he trailed off. “Mostly innocent, but he did mention he is thinking about me often, which is understandable”, he grinned arrogantly.
He squeezed her hand and she reached out to lightly stroke his cheek. “Always here, but if you think for one moment that I am going to ruin my figure to carry your little love child you have another thing coming, Jacob Dorny.” Gwen added with cheeky smile. When he then went on about his date, Gwen nodded then laughed. “Of course he’s thinking about you. You’re always the first thing on so many men and women’s minds.” Gwen added with a grin and a wink of her own. “Though I am so pleased it’s going well for you.”
Jake laughed out loud at the preposterous comment from Gwen, and pulled her into a hug. She had always been exceptionally self-conscious of her figure, and Jake found it terribly amusing that it was the first thing she thought of when she was given the idea of Jake being in a gay partnership. “Darling, you’re amazing”, he laughed, stroking her cheek. “Thank you”, he added, kissing her forehead. “So, are we going to dance, or what?”, he asked, pulling her up from the table.
