She could tell by the way that he massaged his forehead that they were getting to the point where he would get frustrated with this same-old point of contention. Daphne didn't really want to start a fight, not with the news she had to tell him and not ever really. She was just so tired. Her emotions were all over the place, understandably she now knew, and it was difficult to remind herself to take a breath and step back from whatever was stressing her out. It wasn't as dire as her brain was trying to make it seem.
Feeling his hands on her shoulders brought a smile to her lips, even more so when he tried to joke about the things she did help with. "Oh I have an idea," she returned with a soft laugh. "I saw some of the things you wore before. Wrinkles and set-in stains everywhere." Her own tone was teasing, not to mention lighter. It did wonders just having Ernie close. The touch of his fingers into her tense shoulders was like an instant relax button.
His question, however, effectively wiped out all of those feelings. The anxiety returned, though she tried to take a breath to steady herself. "Well, you know how tired I've been recently," she started, turning slightly so she was looking at him. When Ernie nodded, she took a deep breath. "I found out why," she added, keeping her eyes on his. It was clear that he was confused and Daphne felt like her heart was going to pound right out of her chest with the weight of not just saying it.
"I'm pregnant," she blurted, biting her lip as she waited for his reaction.
