Quidditch World Cup Results: Day One
Quidditch World Cup Results: Day One
August 1st, 1998
Team vs. Team: Transylvania (240) vs. Wales (250)
Time: 11am.
Match Running Time: 85 minutes.
Snitch Caught By: Wales.
Notes: After coming out with an initial lead, Wales faltered and fell far behind the Transylvanian team. It was only a last minute effort of the Welsh Seeker who caught the Snitch just before Transylvania could broaden the lead so much that even the Snitch wouldn't help, winning it for Wales by a very slim margin. A Chaser from each team was injured following a mid-air collision as they went for the Quaffle, sending both to the ground. Reserve Chasers were brought in. Later in the day, both Chasers were proclaimed to be in stable condition.
Team vs. Team: Scotland (280) vs. Brazil (170).
Time: 3pm.
Match Running Time: 2 hours and 2 minutes.
Snitch Caught By: Scotland.
Notes: A tight game, with the lead being passed back and forth between the two countries for much of the game, until Scotland's Seeker caught the snitch just after the two hour mark to cement the win.
Team vs. Team: Spain (220) vs. Japan (160)
Time: 7pm.
Match Running Time: 70 minutes.
Snitch Caught By: Spain.
Notes: This game had the largest crowd of all the games that day, not surprisingly given that Spain is the host country. The stands were filled to capacity with a lot of people watching from a distance. The two teams were fairly evening matched throughout, but it was Spain who caught the Snitch, much to the crowd's delight.
(PS: Last last call for Random Threading Opt-In. Doing this up later today.)
