"I will love you forever in an entirely platonic way if you give me alcohol," Z said fervently. "All I have is half a bottle of wine that's probably undrinkable now."
Z liked to drink and party, probably more then the next girl if she was honest, but she hadn't had the time to do anything fun since New Year's. She didn't see that changing until the end of the term unless they got a new Ancient Runes professor. And while it was pathetic (and boring) to drink by herself, Z was going to need alcohol to make it though this term and she'd have to make the time to take a trip to Hogsmeade or get someone to owl her something she could actually drink.
Z sighed and ran her fingers though her hair before rubbing her neck. Fuck she was tense.
"Ancient Runes has never been a popular subject and not many people continue with it past fifth year. As far as Bryar and I can tell, none of the staff has any background in Runes except for Victoria, Beckett and maybe Gabe. Beckett only has one year of NEWT-level Runes, plus he's ridiculously busy with the library and all of tutoring he's doing-so many students have forgotten or never properly learned things and Beckett's one of the few people who can help with that. So Schechter couldn't have him help teach, Victoria and Gabe are teaching courses that are mandatory through fifth year, so that leaves staff finding staff with the relative free time to babysit and attempt to teach. Bryar's a better option than Greta in this case."
God, the students would have eaten Greta alive if she'd tried to teach. She didn't have the presence Bob had to keep them in line, nor did she have Z's vague authority as a familiar TA and Z's background in the subject to structure the class.
"Why would Victoria want you to talk to Gerard?" Z was genuinely puzzled about that. "I mean, ignoring the whole attack thing, which you know, is a huge issue and I'm surprised you were even talking to Gerard yesterday-Gerard's just an auror. He's good at his job, but his job consists of undoing dark magic and catching wizards the Ministry deems "Dark" and "dangerous." That doesn't really give him a background in figuring out what's wrong with wards, safely destroying them, or making new ones."
