"You were making the best potion possible under the circumstances," Adam said. "I'm not saying that you weren't. And I know you wanted to make it more specific, but under the circumstances you couldn't do that, because you didn't know who the werewolf was, and I didn't want you to personalize it for me."
Adam frowned. "No, if it was made correctly it should have continued to work. I don't know what went wrong. I've studied potions - not as extensively as you have, of course, and I can't make a Wolfsbane potion - and I can't understand what could have possible caused what happened to happen. Unless you went against my wishes and personalized it for me when I expressly asked you not to."
Adam leaned back in his seat and crossed his arm over his chest. "Did Gerard know that I was covering for him? Yes. Did he put me up to it? No. I did that because I found out by accident and it wasn't for everyone to know."
