No, really? They'd made a mess? Gabe hadn't noticed.
But he was too busy thinking (and frowning and drumming his thumbnail against the edge of his teacup) to be sarcastic out loud. It could have been ages ago. It could have been recently. It could have been more than once, if that had been an inserted shortcut. (It wouldn't be again. Gabe had redone his wards, and added a nasty little twist for anyone attempting to take that path.)
"I'd have noticed any of the restricted substances going missing," he noted. "But there's still a lot of trouble you can cause with the regularly available stuff." Not to mention that maybe it hadn't been taking away, maybe it had been introducing. Gabe sighed. He was going to have to test everything left over for add-ons. Jon and William had possibly done him a favour by stealing or flambeing 80% of the contents of the room.
And also, "I'm going to have to tell Schechter about this," Gabe admitted with a wince. He liked the boss; he also suspected he had more than enough stuff to worry about without adding this. "Is there anything else you can remember about it?"
