"It could have been ages ago, as well," William mused, finishing his tea and settling the empty cup and saucer in his lap. "I don't know that it would have shown up if I hadn't forced myself through your wards while they were still active."
Gabe was right about one unfortunate thing, though. "Jon and I did make quite a mess of your storeroom, I'm afraid." What hadn't been destroyed by potion-making attempts or the regrettable freeing of one flaming ricochet beetle had been thoroughly rifled through and in several cases removed entirely. "We didn't notice anything, but it wasn't a priority at the time, either. And if anything of note was stolen, you may have difficulty telling. Jon took most of the supplies that could have been used for healing or nourishment up to the Great Hall for the children."
Not the best odds, sadly. If anyone had been trying to meddle with the potions ingredients unnoticed, William and Jon had done a good job of covering their tracks for them.
