"Hayley," William said, wiping his mouth and looking - hopefully - startled and guilty and slightly debauched. "What are you doing here?"
It was a fair question, even if he already suspected the answer (and she would know he suspected, etc. etc.) and she wouldn't admit more than the official party line regardless.
He pulled away from Spencer with a judicious mix of apparent reluctance and alacrity. Luckily Spencer hadn't punched him out yet, which was something of a relief, since William hadn't had time to warn him about the whole pretend-lovers plan of action. He thought the 'sacrifice Spencer as a decoy' plan had been a much better one, personally, but such was life. At least Spencer was playing along. Now they just had to make sure that word of this never got out. Ever. They might not be best bosom friends anymore, but William still had a healthy fear of the wrath of Ryan Ross.
