For the first few seconds William couldn't seem to do anything besides stand there and stare wide-eyed. He hadn't expected to be accosted, but if he'd suspected such a thing, it would have been from the other Way. He was taken slightly aback.
"It's a regulation Muggle police wand," he answered. "Pete made it. He said it would help people recognize me." He did a very tiny amount of finger-pointing in Pete's direction with the wailing wand so that Gerard wouldn't snap his wrist like a twig. He had very delicate wrists.
"The noise helps with the crowd mind-control, I think. Although I wouldn't turn down a baskethound, that's not a bad idea. Maybe Jon would loan me Thomas?" He had a suspicion that Thomas would somehow feature in Jon's costume, actually, but he didn't have proof of that yet. It just seemed like Jon would take the opportunity for animal-involvement if one presented itself.
"I am Combes, though." He smiled halfway between tentatively and brilliantly. "Did you get it from the hat? Mikey made it for me."
