"I know you work alone," Mikey said tiredly, glancing around to make sure they weren't waking anyone else up. He could hardly not know. Working in the Ministry had had its pluses but being vaguely aware of Auror moveouts going on had not been one of them.
One look at Gerard's face took care of most of his anger though. He looked just as exhausted as Mikey felt.
"I know," he repeated, quieter, more gently. "It's just that usually I don't have to be around to watch you leave."
He let go of the stupid map with a sigh and sat back, staring at his hands. "I don't want to fight either, okay? So how about you go grab anything you might need, I do the same, and then we go find the damn kids together."
