Honestly, William knew the current situation wasn't his forte, but that didn't mean people had to keep pointing it out to him. "Taking the long way around back to the library," he answered, rubbing his eyes. "And making a detour to the potions workroom while I'm this close."
It was a sensible enough plan of action. The workroom had an outside chance of being able to supply healing potions or at least the ingredients of one, and it might also contain some of the less-than-completely-legal stimulants William knew he and Gabe both abused from time to time. After forty hours on his feet, William was beginning to flag, and he suspected he wasn't the only one. There was the possibility there might be a forgotten sandwich in there as well, although that was a lower priority and not anything he was allowing himself to dwell on.
Those were all excellent reasons, and none of them had anything to do with checking to see whether there might be a hope Gabe was holed up in there with some of his students.
They should really keep moving, out here in the open. William inclined his head to get them started again down the corridor. "Where are you headed?"
