"Yeah," Mikey agreed, rubbing at his brow. "There might be something in the library that could - " he stopped as he caught sight of the platypus trundling across the Hall towards him. Then he winced, knowing exactly what was about to happen. In front of everyone assembled, no less. He closed his eyes tightly as Gerard's voice spilled out and didn't open them again until it was over.
"Huh," he said as the platypus didn't disappear but instead sat rather insistently on his left foot. "Two minutes," he muttered to Adam, purposely not looking at him (or anyone else) as he pulled out his wand.
A few seconds later a silver bobcat was looking down at the platypus with a pleased smile. "Um, hi Gerard," he said awkwardly, "'m fine. I'm in the Great Hall with Adam. Who will now never respect me again. Hope you're happy blah blah. Obviously you're okay too, which is good. Sorry for not replying earlier. You know, hurt children, small corridor, house elves on our trail, didn't really have time to stop." The rest he mumbled quickly. "Love you, dude. Don't die, okay?" There, done. He coughed and waved at the bobcat. It nudged the dissolving platypus once and then trotted sedately off. It was lazy like that.
"So," he said, finally daring to glance up at Adam. "Well at least we know for sure Gerard's fine?" It reminded him that he needed to send out more messages though. In particular a reply to the grey cat that had nudged his leg politely just before Adam's head appeared round the Great Hall doors. That was one he wasn't going to do with an audience, however.
"Could you have a look at the wound?" he asked Adam, nodding his head towards Anton. "Your medical stuff is better than mine and even if you can't help, a second opinion in general is probably a good idea." He really didn't want anything to go wrong just because he'd missed a small thing. "I'm gonna send off a few more messages, try the library and then some house heads."
