"Will you still be here when I get back?" he asked, matching Gabe's tone with slightly more emphasis on the drawling, good-natured mockery. "Because as enticing as that sounds, I'm not certain I can leave you here in good conscience, not sure of what you're looking for, missing out on dinner, adrift in an ocean of literature. I could at least narrow it down enough to make sure you get dessert."
There wasn't really anything Gabe would harm by being in there during dinner, though, so it wasn't like William could in good conscience deny him. "Just don't go into the Restricted Section," he advised, unlocking the massive doors with a loop-and-hook of his wand. "Otherwise it sets off the alarms, and then I'll have to traipse back up here to make sure it isn't Lazzara and his fuzzy petting zoo again."
