"I don't know," William said honestly as he hurried along, pulling Spencer behind him. "But we can destroy it." The castle loomed over them in dark silhouette, giving William a sickening sense of déjà vu. But there was no fire, no screaming, no sense of impending doom; just stillness and quiet.
The wards were still up around the empty classroom, as thick as ever. William spoke the password and squeezed Spencer's hand so he knew to repeat it, drawing them both through the heavy door.
The bindrune still felt the same, twisted and menacing, but it was a feeling William recognized now; the same dark threat he'd felt in Spencer's dream. The rune stood out stark and charred against the birch wood surface, still hanging from two threads: one green, and one silver.
"That's what it's doing," William breathed, with the awe of revelation. "It's been you all along."
