He waited in the darkened room outside with his hands in his pockets. When Adam re-emerged, he tried to smile, tried to be reassuring, even though mentally he was already a million miles away, thinking about who he'd talk to after he took Adam to the infirmary.
"Sorry," he said. "I figured you'd want your room to still be here when you got back, and not totally burned out."
