Out window shopping in Freedomtown to kill some time, Dagny saw a tech shop that caught her eye. Crossing the street, she walked in and began looking around. Some of this stuff was pretty nice and she may just walk out with something new. It'd been a while since she got anything new so why not? "Hey. Can you tell me the specs on this?" She asked to person working there, pointing to something that caught her attention. "And what it is?" She added on with a small laugh because she had no idea. Callister was actually proud of himself for getting out of the nomadic habits that he had picked up. It had for about a year and the shop just four months less than that. Still it was rooted. It was still and that always had a tinge of feeling off. Still he hadn't seemed to cause any malfunctions for a while. Anyone else would think it crazy for him to work surrounded by things that he could affect but he liked his job. He felt like the electronics store was good for him. It wasn't like anything he was doing back home. He wasn't basically in hiding and he wasn't making any scientific breakthroughs. He was just being a regular guy and he was more than okay with that. He did his best to ignore the electronics buzzing from time to time when he walked by. There was nothing harmful about a little buzzing. It never really went beyond that. He was putting a few refurbished items on a shelf when he heard someone call out a question to him. Before he could answer another question about another electronic nearby the two of them. "Well that's a boombox but I made it so it can connect with Bluetooth to a phone," because no one really had CDs anymore. "This is what a boom box looks like?" She asked, stepping in closer to look more at what was in front of her. She'd only heard about these things from all those 80s and 90s movies. She never thought she would ever see one in person. "And you made it work with blue tooth? That's awesome, dude. What else do you got?" She wondered, stepping back to look around for a moment before she looked over at him. They were only looking at one style but he could say that most had that general look of them. "Yeah, there's slightly different shapes and colors. I have some pink ones in the back that I'm still working on," he gestured for a second but then continued to focus on his customer. He wasn't sure if she was the pink sparkly type but who knows. People had a way of taking others by surprise. "But it wasn't that hard to make it work with Bluetooth. I could make that adjustment on pretty much anything." But not everything needed to connect with Bluetooth. Because that would be insane. "Well what are you looking to get?" he asked as he felt a small surge. It didn't really feel like anything so he chose to ignore it. "I've never seen one before" She told him, pulling out her phone to take a picture of it so she could show her family when she left. She would have to keep in mind what he said because it could make some future electronics easier to use. "Nothing, really. You shop just caught my eye as I walked by so I decided to check it out" She told him as she put her phone away and turned towards him. "So show me what you've got." It wasn't the first time that someone said they haven't seen a boombox before. "Yeah, they've pretty much before a relic nowadays. So I made them relevant again," he liked that people seemed to buy them up. "I'm glad you walked in," he said as he started to walk towards one of the shelves. As he walked closer there was the light smell of smoke. "Wait," he told the blonde that we near him. He moved a little bit closer and he felt the same surge again. A large spark came from one of the TVs by the entrance of the store. "Good for you" She commented with a smile. It was pretty cool that some people did that and brought back things like they for people who didn't get to experience them when they were big. Following him towards the shelves, she was about to ask about something on them when she smelled the smoke, stopping when he said wait. She jumped when she heard the spark and turned around to look towards it. "That can't be good." "No, it doesn't," a confused look across his face as he looked where the sparks had come from. It had been a year since his last malfunction. It hadn't happened since he got here. He didn't understand it. Why would it happen now? "You have to go," he said as he knew from experience it doesn't stop at a few sparks. "No joke" She told him as she turned to walk towards the door. As she did, the TV sparked up more and flame began to emerge from there. "Holy cakeballs. We both need to get out of here" She turned him as she turned back to him just as what was smoking earlier began flaming too. The two electronics that first reacted the surges were both quickly surrounded by fire. This meant that the front entrance wasn't going to be a way out for them with how close the TV was to the door. And just like a scene in a movie the boombox that was on fire was near the back door. The fire didn't seem that big yet. "Come on, towards the back," he gently grabbed her arm to lead her to what he thought would be safe. As he walked towards the door the boombox exploded. Causing the fire to spread to the floor and nearby shelves. She looked at the boombox with wide eyes as she went burst into flames. Without question she went towards the back with him. Seconds later, the boombox exploded and Dagny tried to shield herself from it but screamed as some fire hit her. Just like she'd been taught, she tried to stop drop and roll to put herself out as the fire grew. The fire started to spread quickly throughout the storefront. Going out from the walls and against them spreading further out. Cal knew he wasn't immune to the fire but at least he could handle the smoke. He knew he couldn't say the same for the woman with him. As she was on the ground he pulled her away from the approaching lames to the center of the store. It was the only thing he could do to get them both away from the fire around them. "I'm sorry," he said as he tried to find a way out. He couldn't see any way out. |
