He let her cry. It was what she needed in that moment, and even though he hated to see it, Sam wouldn't waiver an inch. He would be there for her as long as she needed it. One hand rubbed comforting circles on her back, while the other rested on her knee.
After some time had passed and her cries began to subside a little, Sam spoke again. "I know none of this is what we planned, Jess. But this place can be a second chance for you." He wanted to say 'us' rather than 'you.' But until Jess told him otherwise, Sam would assume there wouldn't be anymore 'us' for them. "You can finish school, you can build a life. It's a little on the crazy side here, but it's a good place." He brushed her hair back with his fingers. "It brought you here, which is more than I could have ever asked for."
