Who: Chapin and Eve
What: Reunited and it feels so goood
Where: FT then New Orleans
When: Her arrival night
Warning: None
Eve stood there, slightly shivering, clad in a pink baby tee and form-fitting jeans that quite frankly showed how much she'd grown since the last time she and Chapin had seen each other. God, it felt like a lifetime ago.
She was having a very hard time processing this, to be honest. She was compartmentalizing like a champ right now... just focusing on seeing her best friend again. She'd worry about the details later.
As soon as she realized it was Eve, Chapin was out the door after saying a quick bye to Miles and their kids. She didn't have time to explain what was going on before she left and only told Miles what was going on when she was on the train. The train was fast but not fast enough for her because she was feeling incredibly impatient. It'd been over a year since she saw Eve in Storybrooke and that was way too long, if you asked her. She was calm and chill as she got off the train and walked into the park but as soon as she saw Eve, she broke into a run and tackled her with a hug as soon as she got to her. Already in her PJs for the night, Chapin was wearing a baggy t-shirt and a pair of Miles' shorts with her hair up in a ponytail. No words could express how happy she was at that moment to see her.
"OOMPF" Eve blurted out as she was tackled by Hurricane Chapin. She looked at her friend... no, her BEST friend... and her eyes widened. They really had both changed in the last few years. She'd always harbored a bit of an unspoken crush on her friend... and a part of her suspected it was mutual. But now? Chapin wasn't just cute. No, the girl was stunning. And the combination of seeing her again and seeing how amazing she looked took over in the moment. Eve grabbed her by the shoulders, looking at her with tears in her eyes, trying to think of what to say... and instead found her absolutely crushing her lips against Chapin's, a kiss that had been held back for more years than even SHE cared to admit.
"I'm so happy to see you" She muttered into Eve's shoulder as they embraced. Pulling away after a moment, she stepped back and gave the girl a once over. What was once a cute teenage girl was now a beautiful looking woman. Chapin was definitely straight but there was just something about Eve that made her feel things she couldn't explain. She opened her mouth to say tease her about the tears in her eyes but before she could get a word out, Eve's lips were on hers. She stood there wide eyed for a moment then she let her just go with the moment, her eyes closing as she kissed back.
Eve hummed happily into the kiss, enjoying every last moment, just in case this was a dream. When they finally parted, she giggled as a blush crept onto her cheeks. "Sorry. I... wanted to do that for a long time. Didn't think I'd ever get the chance." She explained, tears of joy freely streaming down her cheeks. "Chapin... I missed you so much..."
For the first time in her life, Chapin was speechless after the kiss ended. It took her a few seconds to get her barrings again and when she did she just smiled at the giggle she hadn't heard in so long. "C'mon now don't cry on my account, Spalding" She teased, reaching up to wipe some tears away from her face. If she was a crier, she would be on the verse of happy tears too. "Betcha I've missed you more" She told her, turning to stand beside her. Hooking arms with her, she began walking the red head towards the train station so they could get her out of the chill of the night.
"You look so beautiful..." Eve said as they walked, the reality of this starting to sink in. This girl was going to have a breakdown, and SOON. But for now, her heart swelled with joy. All her how, all her efforts... they hadn't been in vain.
"I wanna know everything about your life that I've missed. Gonna guess it's some pretty crazy stuff."
"I could say the same for you" Chapin complimented back, bumping hips with her. Her lips still tingled from the kiss and she kind of wanted to do it again but now wasn't the time for it. There was also the fact that she was engaged. She couldn't do it again without talking to Miles first. "It has been but I wanna know about home first. Did I really just disappear after I jumped? Which, by the way, was a stupid thing for me to do. I don't even know what I was trying to prove" She told, shaking her head at her own stupidity.
Eve just nodded, still a little shaken from the fact that all this was even happening. "It was. I was so... pissed at you. For being so selfish. For...." She was now clearly holding back tears as the memories came back to her. "For just leaving me like that. All alone." She didn't want to be dramatic. She really didn't. But this had all been building up since the night that Chapin had vanished.
"You know I'd never leave you by choice, right?" She said as they got on the train. It was late at night so it wasn't too filled. Leading them to a spot away from the rest of the train, she sat down then continued talking. "What happened to Stacy ... it really messed me up. It wasn't in a good state of mind that night" She told her, trying to explain how things had been for her. This was something they needed to talk about before they could move forward from that night. "I planned on surviving when I jumped. I wasn't going to leave you. I would never leave you"
"For three years... I threw myself into looking for you. When everyone, even your family, told me it was time to let go... I kept looking. We weren't that much younger... but we were way more naive then. There were so many things I wanted to tell you as time went on. So many things I wanted to share with you... " She paused, calming herself down. Chapin was not a liar.... she'd tell the truth even at her own expense. So she had to believe her that the jump was not a suicide attempt. "So... you're trapped wherever this thing sends you?"
Seeing how upset Eve was, she reached out to give her a side hug as a way to comfort her. She hated seeing her be like this and wish she could do more but this was the best she could do at the moment. "You're a good friend, Eve. And you know what? You can share them all with me now. I have a lot of things to share with you too" Like how she was engaged, that she wanted Eve to be her maid of honor and how much she had changed. "That's pretty much how it goes. I'm a regular universe hopper. I'll try and answer any questions you have"
"For now.... I just wanna know what you've been doing with your life. I need to know that you've done more than get in fights, and get into trouble." Eve said, after thinking about it for a moment. "Also, just telling you now - if I have any say in it, we are never gonna be apart again."
"Damn right we won't be. Where I go, you go and vice versa" She told her as she pulled away and stood up as the train stopped. "This is our stop. I live in the city you arrived in but I thought we could get some late night grub and talk before I take you back to my place" Offering Eve a hand, she let go once she was up and the two walked out into the city New Orleans together. Yes, she considered Miles' place here now, even though she hadn't officially moved in yet. She would get all of her stuff eventually. "I have a boyfriend now. We've been together for almost three years" She would let the sink in before she showed off her ring.
"Wait... really?" Eve asked, eyes wide. "You finally got a boyfriend? And... three years?" Her voice almost squeaked there, from pure shock. She turned to her friend, feeling a twinge of jealousy, but feeling more happy for Chapin. "Tell me about him! How you met, what he's like... he's good to you, right?"
"Really" She replied with a nod of her head, a smile appearing on her face at that squeak. Oh how she had missed that. She had missed everything about her and didn't realize that until now. "You know the kind of guy I would have never dated at home? That's him. I couldn't tell you how but we just make it work. We met on the network on Storybrooke. I didn't believe he was Spider Man so he proved me wrong by taking me webbing through out the city. It was the best ride of my life and we've been doing it every since"
"Hold on." Eve wasn't in any way a comics geek, but come on, who hadn't heard of this guy? "You're dating Spider-Man? No shizz? Like... those people are really real here?"
"No shizz. It's some version of him. I don't really know or care about all the history behind it, though" She admitted with a small laugh, her eyes looking around for a place that was open. This was New Orleans, there had to be a place they could grab some food from. This city was always alive this time of the night. "They're really real. And eventually? I'm gonna be Mrs Spider man" She told her, holding up her hand to show off her ring.
"You.... what?" Eve blinked, wide-eyed, at seeing the ring. Chapin was engaged? Her Chapin? That barely ever seemed interested in anything resembling dating? "I.... wow. C-Congrats, Chapin. It looks like you've really... managed to get your life together here."
"That's right. He put a ring on it. Not too long ago, actually" She replied, showing off the ring another moment before using that hand to pull her phone out. Rather than finding a place at random, it would be easier to locate one on the internet first then go from there. "You'll be my maid of honor, right?" She asked, stopping in her tracks so she could turn to the girl.
What a gut punch. Just as she was coming to terms with the fact that she was harboring feelings for her best friend... she finds out that not only is the girl getting married, but she wants HER to be in the wedding. Still... what was she going to do? Rain on Chapin's parade? Especially after the amazing job she'd done of maturing? "I'd... I'd be honored. Completely."
"Good 'cause there's no one I'd rather be by my side" She replied with a smile, looking back down to her phone after a moment. She couldn't help but ask Eve that question right away even though it was probably a weird time to do it given their kiss. They would have to talk about that eventually but not right now. Chapin needed to sort out how she felt about it before they did that. "Did you ever get with Whisper?" She wondered as she put the location of a place near by in her phone so they could follow the directions.
"No." Eve said, shaking her head as she tried to process everything going on, both around her and in her head and heart. "After you vanished... everything felt different. Everything that came before that felt so... stupid and childish. The others got tired of me talking about you all the time, and I kinda outgrew them. The only one from that whole group of schoolmates that I stayed close to was Liza."
"Like the game we played" She commented, her mind thinking back to that night. It was defiantly a childish game and she couldn't remember the last time she played it, really. It had to be back in Storybrooke. She was beyond Triple Dog now. At the mention of Liza, Chapin couldn't help but roll her eyes. "Ugh Rat Girl. I still don't understand how you're friends with her"
"Well... a big part of it is the fact that she's engaged to my brother..." Eve laughed, rolling her eyes. "And before you ask? She grew up too. Todd's.... still working on it." She looked over the blonde again, still in disbelief that they were together again. "God, it's so incredible to see you again."
"I'm not shocked at either. You know how I said I was in another place like this for a few years? They showed up and got together there too" She had almost started to tolerate Rat Girl in their time there together. Almost. She would always like the boy half of that relationship a lot better. When Eve said that, she stopped and reached over to hug her again, feeling like it was a good moment for it. "I know exactly how you feel"
"...ohmygawwwd." Eve said with a blink, looking up and realizing where they were. They'd gotten to the diner Chapin wanted to eat at... and had been so engrossed in conversation that they hadn't even realized it. "Looks like some things never change... we still tune everything out but us."
Chapin pulled away from the huge and looked up with a laugh. "So it is. Let's go get some eats and I'll tell you more about this place" Chapin said, hookings arms with her so they could walk in together.
